The Sanno Festival is held once every two years.
This year, too, the town will hold a grand festival in this town that retains strong memories of the Edo period.
Sanno Matsuri is one of the three major festivals in Edo. Since the third Tokugawa Shogun, Iemitsu Iemitsu, it has been one of the few Tenka Matsuri festivals where successive Shoguns have been worshipped by the emperor, and is loved by many as a historic festival.
The “Edo Machi Juku” program will introduce the charms of Edo and Tokyo from various perspectives by inviting leading experts on everything from the history of Edo to the spirit of the people who live in the city.
This year’s event will feature lectures and talks by TV personality and historical writer Maazumi Horiguchi, Akira Kashima, who has supported the festival as the head of the Ro-gumi, the Edo-machi fire extinguishers, and actress Hiyo Honma, who will unravel the Sanno Festival from various perspectives.
The venue is TOFROM YAESU, a new base in Yaesu, in front of Tokyo Station.
The Edo Machi Juku will be held in this area, which was once one of the centers of Edo, and is expected to provide an opportunity to feel the “time of the town” from the past to the present.
Admission is free, advance registration required.
