A new type of Tokyo stroll that allows visitors to tour the area between Yaesu and Nihonbashi while riding the electric mobility vehicle “RODEM” is attracting attention.
“Machi-mobi,” which opened on the first floor of Tokyo Midtown Yaesu, offers two types of tours: the cutting-edge RODEM and a traditional rickshaw. The RODEM, in particular, is being used by an increasing number of people, especially families, as it is an electric-powered mobility vehicle that can be ridden with children.
The slow-moving RODEM can be used alone by those 16 years of age and older without a driver’s license; children between the ages of 3 and 10 can ride in pairs with a parent or guardian; children between the ages of 10 and 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in a separate RODEM if riding alone*.
At the beginning of the tour, you will receive an explanation from the staff and practice on the grounds before leaving, so first-timers do not need to worry.
While listening to the history of Tokyo through a guide using bone-conduction earphones, the tour will travel along Chuo-dori Avenue in the direction of Muromachi. The tour takes about 90 minutes (shortened to 70 minutes in summer), turning around at the main Mitsukoshi store in Nihonbashi and returning to the Yaesu area. The course also includes the long-established Japanese confectionery store “Eitaro Sohonten,” where you can buy souvenirs.
RODEM, with its adorable, rounded appearance, is a great place to explore Tokyo with children who love rides.
