2025.02.12

The Names on the Beach, a solo exhibition by Hikari Mukai, winner of the Grand Prix at the first BUG Art Award held in 2023-2024, will be held at BUG from February 19 (Wed) to March 23 (Sun), 2025.

The BUG Art Award is an award that supports the growth of artists with less than 10 years of production experience.

Hikari Mukai, the winner of the 1st Grand Prix, won the award with her “The Other Side of the Shore is Not Visible,” an arrangement of three-dimensional works, drawings, and videos on a white box. The judges highly evaluated her original point of view and ideas, as well as the space-conscious exhibition method of BUG.

The exhibition, which will be held after about a year of preparation since winning the Grand Prix, will feature a total of 17 works, including both past and new pieces. While a student at the Department of Sculpture, Musashino Art University, Mukai has consistently created small sculptures that can be held with both hands, combining familiar materials such as wood chips, glass, and paper clay. For this exhibition, Mukai will use every inch of the 7.2 meter-high ceiling space, making this her largest attempt at a new work.

During the exhibition period, there will also be talk events and workshops where visitors can experience a part of Mukai’s production.
