The charm of the Yaesu, Nihonbashi, and Kyobashi area is that you can find delicious food from both Japan and abroad, and you can choose a restaurant according to your purpose and mood. GOKINJYO, a community of women workers in this area, introduces their favorite dishes in this relay series.
Tokyo Square Garden is highly convenient as it is directly connected to Kyobashi Station.
There’s also a drugstore and cafe, and it’s convenient for lunch, so I used to visit here often before the COVID-19 outbreak.
Since I started working remotely, I visited here for the first time in a while, and the lineup of restaurants had changed considerably from before.
However, there are still many restaurants that look delicious!
Among all these temptations, we visited “BEEF UP TOKYO” located at the far end of the first basement floor.
Although the restaurant’s name has BEEF in it, the menu also includes lamb, chicken, and pork, making it a place that any meat lover can visit!
The restaurant has a very casual, American atmosphere, and there is mostly table seating, but also a counter, so it seems like a good place to go for a quick dinner.
This time it was a gathering of five GOKINJYO people, so we sat at a table at the far end.
I forgot to take a photo of the all-important toast scene (it happens all the time…), but we started with an appetizer of green salad and prosciutto.
The prosciutto wasn’t too salty, and was just the right amount of delicious even for me, who isn’t a heavy drinker…!
Naturally, our expectations for the food that follows will rise.
Since I am weak on alcohol, I toasted with ginger ale, but the owner seems to be a wine lover, so I think he could suggest a wine that would go well with each meat.
Next up is everyone’s favorite hamburger steak, and it comes with a fried egg!
These days there are many different types of hamburger steaks, but this one is coarsely ground and doesn’t use many binders, making it a straightforward, solid hamburger steak. This one is also available for lunch at a reasonable price!
Next up was Caprese.
In the photo is the master’s hand, crumbling the cheese. This mozzarella cheese was so fresh and lush that I wanted to eat it all by myself!
I vowed to come alone next time and have it all to myself.
Although we had finished our hamburgers, we still weren’t full.
As we were wondering what to order due to the extensive menu, the owner brought us a platter of four different types of beef.
When this arrived, we couldn’t help but cheer!
The platter that was served this time included sirloin, rib, skirt steak, and lean Wagyu beef.
It’s great to have a large group so we can share a lot of different things.
Each cut had its own merits and was delicious, but the wagyu beef was outstanding in terms of tenderness and flavor.
I’m glad to be born in Japan! That’s not an exaggeration to say.
Beef tendon cabbage that the members requested additionally.
I had no idea what kind of menu it would be, but when I saw the actual dish, I was surprised, it looked like a hotpot and good for the body.
The beef tendons are tender, the cabbage is soft, and the soup has a mild flavor but the umami of the beef tendons comes through so it doesn’t feel bland.
It’s such a delicious and nutritious dish that I would cry if someone made this for me when I had a cold. I thought the menu would only be hearty, but I did not expect such a menu. It’s a menu I’ll definitely want to try again next time.
Of course, they also have a wide selection of snacks like nachos and potatoes!
The restaurant’s recommended dish seems to be fish and chips, so I’ll definitely order that next time.
When everyone was full and it was time to close, fried churros appeared…!
I had room for dessert, so I ended up eating the whole thing (When I looked at the menu afterwards, it seemed like it wasn’t usually available, so if you’d like to try it, be sure to inquire beforehand.)
This was a Thursday night for drinks, but it gave me the motivation to work hard for one more day, so I thought Thursday drinks were a good day for drinks. This is a restaurant I’d like to return to in the near future and try new menu items.
