The Nihonbashi/Kyobashi Festival, one of the most popular autumn festivals in the Nihonbashi/Kyobashi area, will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

In the Edo period (1603-1867), Nihonbashi was designated by the shogunate as the starting point of the Five Routes leading to the rest of the country, and prospered as the center of Japan. In 1972, a parade with a drum and fife corps and a procession of feudal lords was held to commemorate the completion of streetlights and national roads, marking the beginning of the Nihonbashi/Kyobashi Festival. Since then, the festival has been held every October, with this year marking the 52nd.

The main attraction is the “Oedo Kakki Parade,” in which approximately 2,000 people parade down Chuo-dori, the main street of Nihonbashi.

Beginning with an opening parade of local and government organizations, traditional festivals and dances from all over Japan will be performed, including Tokushima’s Awa Odori dance and Okinawa’s Eisa. This year, the “Star Wars” Nebuta from the Aomori Nebuta Festival is scheduled to make an appearance.

In addition, the Nishigashi Jizo-son Street will be the site of the “Provincial Orai Market,” featuring a wide array of local specialties from all over Japan. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of foods, such as jaga-butter from Hokkaido, char-grilled momo-yaki from Miyazaki Prefecture, and deep steamed tea from Shizuoka Prefecture.
