The annual event to clean up the famous Nihonbashi Bridge, “Meikyou Nihonbashi Bridge Washing,” will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025 (open to the public; public participation in the bridge washing is not permitted).
Since 1971, the “Nihonbashi Bridge Washing” has been held every year on the fourth Sunday in July for the purpose of beautifying the environment of the famous Nihonbashi Bridge. It has become one of the most popular summer events in Nihonbashi, with more than 1,000 people from children to adults participating, mainly from the Nihonbashi Preservation Society, local town councils, and nearby businesses.
On the day of the event, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Chuo Police Station, the Nihonbashi Fire Department, and the fire brigade cooperated to close Nihonbashi to traffic and discharge water with fire pump vehicles. Participants will use deck brushes to scrub and polish the streets of Nihonbashi beautifully.
