Chief priest of Teppozu Inari Shrine
Fumitaka Nakagawa
Comment
The beginning of this shrine dates back to the early Heian period. The shrine was relocated to this location in the first year of the Kan'ei Era during the Edo Period (1603-1868). The shrine spread throughout the country as a maritime guardian deity for many sailors, and was often depicted in ukiyoe woodblock prints by artists such as Hiroshige Utagawa.
The annual festival is held from May 2 to 5, and on the second Sunday of January, a cold-weather bathing contest (Kanchu Misogi) is held to pray for good health and good fortune throughout the year.
