Public art will be on display at “TOFROM YAESU TOWER,” which opens on September 10. Experience “The Town of the Mermaid,” a story about Yaesu written exclusively for this project by film director Shunji Iwai, through art.

At “TOFROM YAESU TOWER,” which opened on Thursday, September 10, 2026, the public art project “TOFROM YAESU TOWER ART: The City of Mermaids” will begin, transforming the entire facility into a single narrative space.
The theme of this exhibition is “The City of the Mermaid,” an original story written by film director Shunji Iwai and set in the Yaesu district. The story offers a fantastical portrayal—interweaving historical facts with fantasy—of the transition from Edo to Tokyo, the connections between Japan and the rest of the world, and the layers of time that have accumulated in Yaesu.
Eight artist groups—Kota Iguchi, Takuto Ota, Tomohiro Kato, Misa Kono, Hiroto Kobayashi, secca, Takahiro Matsuo, and MULTISTANDARD—are creating works based on the story’s worldview.To enhance the art-viewing experience, the art unit SoSoSo is responsible for designing the special website and the visitor flow within the venue that leads to the art experiences.
Eight works spanning various genres—including video, sculpture, art furniture, and graphics—are scattered throughout the building. As you explore the works, which are loosely connected by a narrative, you’ll feel as though you’re stepping into the world of “The City of Mermaids.” Walking through the building and viewing the art will also allow you to connect with the history and memories that have accumulated in Yaesu over time.
Located just a short distance from Tokyo Station, it’s a great spot for a quick break after work or a day out on the weekend. Why not take a moment to enjoy art and storytelling in the revitalized neighborhood of Yaesu?
