An Annual Celebration! “Sustainable City Summit 6,” Focusing on the Future of Cities, to Be Held in Kyobashi, Tokyo

2026.09.03

"Sustainable City Summit 6," an event that explores the future of cities from the perspectives of business and urban development, will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Located in Kyobashi, Tokyo, “City Lab Tokyo” is a space for co-creation where diverse individuals and companies gather to generate ideas and foster exchange, all centered on the theme of sustainable urban development. This year marks the sixth edition of the original program held at City Lab Tokyo, which focuses on the various “values” hidden within the city.It also examines the values that arise from the culture and identity of the people who live there. How can we share diverse values with one another and nurture them into new forms of value? We will explore the process of building a sustainable future for our cities.

The event will begin with an opening session themed “What Are the New Values of the City?” followed by four themed talk sessions on “Social Impact,” “Nature-Positive,” “Public Space,” and “Prefiguration.”In the opening session, Shunsuke Managi of Kyushu University and others will discuss the new values required of sustainable cities—and the underlying values behind them—from the perspectives of “New National Wealth” (a concept also discussed at the United Nations) and social business. In the four sessions that follow, we will explore the process by which individual values are shared as “value” while introducing practical initiatives—led by diverse stakeholders such as companies, citizens, government agencies, and local organizations—that contribute to community activities and the resolution of local challenges. The closing session will feature a cross-cutting discussion on the roles of each value and their interrelationships, drawing on insights from the previous sessions.

You can choose to participate either in person at City Lab Tokyo or online, making it easy to attend based on your schedule—another great perk. This event is perfect not only for those interested in sustainable business and community development but also for anyone looking to meet people active in various fields and gain new perspectives. Why not join us and use this as an opportunity to reflect on the future of our cities and lifestyles?
