HOKUSAI: It was all Hokusai’s work. The exhibition will be held at the CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO in the TODA BUILDING, a skyscraper complex in Kyobashi, Tokyo, from September 13 (Sat) to November 30 (Sun), 2025.

Katsushika Hokusai, Sequel to “Tsubaki-Setsu Yubari-Getsu” (Tsubaki Setsu Yubari-Getsu), Collection of Urakami Sokyu-do

This exhibition focuses on Hokusai Katsushika’s use of “concentrated lines,” “gag depictions,” and original anime-style drawings. The exhibition is characterized by a new presentation that introduces the origins of modern manga and anime expression as “Hokusai’s work.

Hokusai Katsushika, “Hokusai Manga” (10 volumes), Collection of Urakami Sokyu-do

The exhibition will feature a total of more than 300 works of Hokusai, with the cooperation of Mitsuru Urakami (Urakami Sokyu-do), a world-renowned collector who owns 1,700 volumes of “Hokusai Manga”. The exhibits include 15 of Hokusai’s “Hokusai Manga,” his masterpiece “Fugaku Sanjurokkei Kanagawaoki Namiura” (The 36 Views of Mount Fuji) (also known as “Great Wave”), 3 volumes of his masterpiece “Fugaku Hyakkei” (100 Views of Mount Fuji), 102 paintings, and 16 rare hand paintings, which are on display for the first time. All of them are valuable works.

In addition, animated figures from Hokusai’s paintings, which look as if they are about to start moving, will be shown in a special mini-theater. The special mini-theater will show “Odori Dokkyo” and “Hokusai Manga” including “Jakodori” and “Bogei (stick fighting)”.

In addition, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip, a collaboration with “PEANUTS” has been realized. A variety of limited-edition items such as die-cut pouches, bean plates, and embroidered key chains featuring a special Snoopy wearing a haori and holding a brush and animals from the “Hokusai Manga” will be available only at this exhibition.
